Suspicious package found outside Israeli consulate deemed safe

Los Angeles police determined Monday that a suspicious package outside the Israeli consulate on Wilshire Boulevard was actually a piece of luggage left at a bus stop, officers said.

Wilshire Boulevard was temporarily shut down near Crescent Heights Boulevard during the investigation, which began at 9:18 a.m., officers said.

Patrol officers and a Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad went to the consulate at 6380 Wilshire Blvd. Officers shut down a portion of Wilshire along the Miracle Mile, police said.

No further details were immediately available.

A woman who answered the phone at the consulate said she could not comment on the investigation.
