Sketch released of gunman who killed father of 3 and took rent money

Suspect who killed father in Arcadia area.
Authorities released a sketch Tuesday night of a gunman suspected of killing a father as his wife and three children huddled in a bedroom of their Arcadia-area home.

Jose Parra, 35, was slain Monday night after he handed money to the attacker. The money was to be used to pay the rent, authorities said.

The gunman directed the mother and her sons, ages 3 and 5, and daughter, 6, into the bedroom and ordered them to shut the door, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The attack began about 8:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Kristi Court in an unincorporated area near Arcadia, the department said. The gunman was apparently waiting for the family when they arrived at the home.

The shooter is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, the department said. He was wearing dark clothing, including a black hooded sweatshirt, and had a Band-Aid under his eye.

Anyone with information is asked to call homicide investigators at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be left at (800) 222-8477.
