Officials said there are "multiple victims" of a workplace shooting Friday at a Southern California Edison office in Irwindale.

The shooting prompted a lockdown at several schools in nearby Baldwin Park as officials determined whether the gunman was still alive.

Edison has not confirmed the number of injuries, but Irwindale police and the Los Angeles County Fire Department report that multiple shots were fired and that several people were transported to hospitals.

The shooting occurred about 2 p.m. at 4910 Rivergrade Road. Employees were seen on television news walking out of the building with their arms up.

Police radio traffic from the scene indicated that the gunman was dead, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

It was unclear if the gunman was an Edison employee.
