Body recovered from ocean off Redondo Beach [Video]

Lifeguards discovered a body 2 1/2 miles off the Redondo Beach pier Thursday evening, a Los Angeles County fire official said.

About 2:30 p.m., authorities received reports of a body in the water about a mile off shore in Manhattan Beach, said Fire Department spokesman Quvondo Johnson. But winds and tides moved the body south.

“At approximately 5 p.m. we did find a body,” Johnson said. “It was taken to the pier at King Harbor and we’re waiting for the coroner.”

No gender or age information on the victim was immediately available. A spokesperson with the L. A. County coroner’s office said the agency had not yet been notified of the death.
