Man killed in possible gang-related shooting in Lawndale

December 29, 2011 | 10:39 pm

A man was shot and killed Thursday evening in Lawndale in what Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives are investigating as a possible gang-related slaying.

Authorities say the male victim was walking down the sidewalk with a woman in the 4500 block of Rosecrans Avenue about 7:45 p.m. when the shooter drove alongside them in a midsize sport-utility vehicle.

“The driver got out, confronted the victim, fired several shots, then got back in the vehicle and fled the scene,” said Sheriff's Deputy Benjamin Grubb.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Grubb said. The woman walking with the victim was unharmed.

No arrests have been made.
