Suspect firing gun shot and killed in Hollywood

A man opened fire on several people near the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood on Friday morning, hitting at least one person before Los Angeles Police Department officers fatally shot him.

The incident apparently occurred outside a McDonalds on Vine Street near Sunset Boulevard. The gunman opened fire on people and cars, and officials are still trying to determine how many people were hurt.

Los Angeles Police Commander Andy Smith said LAPD officers fired on the gunman. He was pronounced dead, and a victim was taken to a local hospital, Smith said.

Much of the area was closed off by officials, causing traffic snarls across Hollywood. Video images show the body of the suspect covered in a sheet in the middle of the street.

It's unclear if the gunman had an intended target or was shooting randomly.
