Fatal crash closes northbound 605 Freeway in Norwalk

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that has closed all lanes of the northbound 605 Freeway near the 105 Freeway interchange early Thursday in Norwalk.

The multi-vehicle accident occurred about 5:30 a.m. on the freeway near Imperial Highway, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos. Details of the accident were not immediately available, but one person was confirmed dead, Villalobos said.

Two of the freeway’s five lanes should be open by 7:30 a.m., Villalobos said.

“The three right lanes will remain closed,” Villalobos said. “We have traffic backed up to South Street on the 605.”

Motorists on the freeway are being diverted at Rosecrans Avenue, he said.

CHP officials are asking motorists to avoid the interchange.
