Dramatic rescue of hiker, dog caught on tape

A daring rescue of a dog and its owner in a steep wildland area of Lake View Terrace was caught on tape.

The hiker slipped and fell about 100 feet off a trail after he tried to rescue his pet, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

It took 90 minutes, but an LAFD team was able to lift the dog and the hiker to safety Thursday afternoon.

About 20 firefighters from the LAFD's urban search-and-rescue squad made the rescue.
