Husband charged in Christmas slaying of O.C. mother of three

A 30-year-old man was charged Wednesday in the Christmas slaying of his wife after he allegedly struck her on the head, the Orange County district attorney's office said.

William Wallace initially called 911 at 9:30 a.m. Sunday to report that his wife needed medical attention. When police arrived they found Zazell Preston in bed, unconscious. She was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Preston's two young children from a previous relationship and the couple's 7-week-old baby were in the apartment at the time of the deadly beating, which occurred either Christmas Eve or Christmas morning, prosecutors said.

Wallace faces charges of murder with a potential sentence of 25 years to life in state prison if convicted. He is being held on $1 million bail and was due to appear in a Fullerton court room Wednesday for arraignment.
