Alleged drunk driver held in San Diego County crash that kills 2
A 39-year-old Lemon Grove man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of drunk driving in a highway crash east of San Diego in which a man and woman were killed, the California Highway Patrol said.
Justin Foulds' 2001 Chevrolet Silverado truck rear-ended a Nissan Pathfinder as rush-hour traffic slowed on California Highway 125 near La Mesa, the CHP said. The Pathfinder was pushed into a Lincoln, which then collided with a Ford truck.
The Silverado and Pathfinder then burst into flames. Foulds was able to escape, but a man and woman in the Pathfinder died in the fire, the CHP said. The other drivers were unhurt in the collision, which occurred about 5:35 p.m.
Foulds was arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail, the CHP said. He reportedly had been celebrating at a Christmas party before attempting to drive home.
