According to detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station, the woman was sitting at a bus stop outside Vallarta Supermarket on 18th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard about 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, when the suspect called her over to his parked pickup in a nearby Antelope Valley Bank parking lot and persuaded her to accept a ride home.

While driving, the suspect began making advances, and when the woman refused, he drove to a closed business complex in the 39400 block of 3rd Street East and attempted to sexually assault her, authorities said. “When the victim would not get out of the vehicle the suspect began beating the victim with closed fists and a blunt object,” according to the statement from sheriff’s officials.

The victim began screaming. The suspect fled. The woman sustained severe injuries to her jaw and head. She boarded a bus wounded, and walked about a mile to her home after leaving the bus.

The suspect is described as a Latino male between 50 and 60 years old, with a light complexion and light-colored eyes, possibly hazel. Detectives said his car is a wine-colored older model Toyota single cab pickup containing two bucket seats.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (661) 272-2412 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222- 8477, or by texting the letters TIPLA and details of the tip to 274637.
