Two teenagers killed in Harbor City drive-by shooting

Two teenagers were killed in a drive-by shooting as they walked down a Harbor City sidewalk Sunday evening, police said.

David Jonathan Escobar and Jorge Luis Rodriguez, both 16, were near the corner of Senator Avenue and 254th Street about 5:30 p.m. when a dark-colored SUV drove alongside the victims and a suspect fired multiple rounds from a handgun, said Los Angeles police Officer Sara Faden.

"They ran a short distance before they collapsed," she said. Both teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Faden said it is unclear how many suspects were in the SUV, and investigators are still seeking a motive for the shooting.
