Lt. Xavier Aguilar of the department's transit services bureau was responding to an emergency with his car’s red patrol lights flashing when he was broadsided at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday while making a right turn from eastbound Washington Boulevard onto Overland Avenue, officials said.

A 41-year-old suspect was arrested, given a citation and assigned a court date before being released by Culver City police.

Aguilar was treated at the scene, admitted to a hospital and released Wednesday morning, said a sheriff's spokesman.
