Police lock down gate at Santa Monica High to probe burglary

Area where Santa Monica police responded
Police locked down a gate at Santa Monica High School Tuesday afternoon to keep students from leaving as officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at an apartment across from the campus.

The school's gate at Pico Boulevard and 6th Street was shut down from about 2 p.m. to 3:20 p.m., the Santa Monica Police Department said.

"We didn't want students coming into the perimeter," Sgt. Richard Lewis told The Times.

Officers did not find a suspect at the apartment, on the southwest corner of Pico and 6th, but were still at the scene Tuesday afternoon investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (310) 458-8495
