Man walking across freeway dies after being hit by several cars

Traffic was backed for the morning commute as authorities shored up the deadly accident scene.

A man who was walking across the Ventura Freeway in Burbank was killed after he was struck by several cars, authorities said.

The pedestrian had just crossed the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Bob Hope Drive and was midway across the westbound lanes when he was struck by several cars at about 5 a.m. Tuesday, California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said, citing witness reports.

Authorities were trying to determine why the man, whose identity was not immediately available, was walking on the freeway. There did not appear to be a disabled vehicle nearby, according to the Glendale News-Press.
