Marine from Twentynine Palms killed in Afghanistan

A Marine from the base at Twentynine Palms has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Monday.

Lance Cpl.  Nickolas Daniels, 25, of Elmwood Park, Ill., died Saturday of wounds suffered in Helmand province. He was a combat engineer assigned to the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, at Twentynine Palms.

Daniels enlisted in January 2010. This was his first combat deployment.
