Man critically injured after setting himself on fire

November 16, 2011 |  7:32 am

A 42-year old man was in critical condition at a hospital Wednesday after setting himself on fire in the Glassell Park neighborhood.

The unidentified man ignited himself about 9 p.m. Tuesday at 3225 Fletcher Drive near North San Fernando Road, police said.

Los Angeles police officers from the Northeast Division  spotted the man on the sidewalk and tried to put out the flames. They then called fire and paramedic units to assist the man.

Investigators did not believe the man had ties to the location where he set himself afire, and it was unclear why he did so.
