Driver who had been shot crashes into Inglewood police car, dies

Click here to learn more on the Times interactive Homicide Report.A man who had been shot crashed into an unmarked Inglewood police car, injuring the officer, police said Thursday. The shooting victim later died.

The collision took place at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Florence and Eucalyptus avenues, Inglewood police said in a statement.

The officer was making a left turn from eastbound Florence onto northbound Eucalyptus when a vehicle ran the red light and struck the driver's side of the officer's car.

County firefighters used the "jaws of life" to extricate the officer, who was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition Thursday, said police Lt. Marie DiBernardo.

The driver of the other car, identified as Jomo Adoula Zambia, 26, of Los Angeles, was found to have gunshot wounds to the arm and torso. He died at the hospital.

DiBernardo said police are investigating the shooting but had no information on the circumstances.
