Vermon Square homicides
Los Angeles police were in South Los Angeles where a grandson was barricaded in a home where he is suspected of fatally stabbing his 89-year-old grandmother, authorities said Tuesday afternoon.

The woman was pronounced dead at a hospital after officers arrived at the home in the 900 block of West 41st Street, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

SWAT team officers were at the home Tuesday afternoon in the Vermont Square neighborhood as negotiators tried to talk the grandson into surrendering, the LAPD said. He was believed to be holed up in a shed at the back of the property.

The incident was reported about 2:15 p.m. No other details were immediately available.
