Earthquake: 3.4 quake strikes near Malibu

A shallow magnitude 3.4 earthquake was reported Monday evening 32 miles from Malibu, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 10:56 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 0.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 37 miles from Palos Verdes Point, 38 miles from San Nicolas Is., 40 miles from Oxnard and 54 miles from Los Angeles Civic Center.

In the past 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
