San Diego, Orange counties see more holiday drunk driving arrests

There have been more drunk diving arrests in San Diego and Orange counties this Thanksgiving weekend than the same period last year, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

In Orange County, there were 69 arrests as of early Sunday morning, compared with 39 last year. In San Diego County, there were 88 this year compared with 85 in 2010.

Statewide, arrests were down: 1,350 this year, from last year's 1,419.

San Diego County had two fatalities. Orange County none. Statewide, 21 persons died in traffic accidents compared with 12 last year.

The fatalities in San Diego County were an 89-year-old man who may have driven through a red light and a 46-year-old man who drove across several lanes on Interstate 5.

The numbers come from the period from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
