Man sought in attempted rape of 74-year-old woman

Sheriff’s detectives sought the public's help Wednesday in finding a man suspected of trying to rape a 74-year-old Palmdale woman. Palmdale attempted rapist

The incident occurred in September when the woman was sitting at a bus stop outside a Vallarta supermarket at 18th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard.

The man called the woman over to his pickup in the parking lot of a nearby bank and convinced her to accept a ride, said detectives with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

During the drive, he began making advances toward the woman, who fended him off. He drove to a business complex and attempted to assault her in the pickup.

When she refused to leave the truck, he began beating her.

She began to scream and he ran off, leaving the truck behind. Bewildered and unfamiliar with her surroundings, she walked away, concealing her injuries, taking a bus and finally walking a mile to her house, where she told her family of the attack.

They called the Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators are looking for the man, who is described as a 50- to 60-year-old Latino with a light complexion and light-colored eyes. The truck is described as a white Toyota single-cab with bucket seats.
