Mom, boyfriend arrested in connection with toddler's beating death

October 31, 2011 |  7:25 am

A Palmdale mother and her boyfriend were being held Monday on $1 million bail each on suspicion of beating the woman's 2-year-old son to death, sheriff's officials said.

Jennifer Zolozano, 19, and her boyfriend, Joe Hickman, 21, were arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of murder after she took the boy to the hospital for treatment of head injuries she said occurred when the child slipped in the bath.

The boy was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to a statement from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, the child had several bruises and burns that were inconsistent with Zolozano's story.

When questioned by investigators, Zolozano and Hickman allegedly admitted to beating the child, sheriff's officials said.
