Six arrested in Upland kidnapping, slaying

Six people have been arrested in the kidnapping and killing of a Montclair man reported missing last week.

Upland police said the 22-year-old man, whose name was not released, was allegedly kidnapped by several people Oct. 5 from a parking lot.

The kidnappers allegedly beat him as they drove him to San Diego in his own car and left him for dead in a field near the 8 and 15 freeways, police said.

Two days later, the man’s girlfriend, who was unaware of the kidnapping, reported him missing, police said.

Last week, Upland police learned of the kidnapping. They discovered the man’s abandoned car, burned in a field in San Bernardino.

On Tuesday, police arrested two people, who led them to the field in San Diego, where a man’s body was discovered.

Police believe it to be the body of the missing Montclair man, but his identity has not yet been confirmed.

Arrested in the case are: Isabel Rosas, 46, of Pomona; Rogelio Varela, 22, of San Bernardino; Oscar Zuniga, 19, of Highland; Yussef Tafich, 23, of Highland; Jose Pizana, 23, of Highland; and a 17-year-old Highland boy.

Anyone with information is asked to call Upland Police Det. Jim Potts at (909) 946-7624.
