The shootings took place at a safety meeting that occurs every morning at the Hansen Permanente quarry.

An employee showed up at the meeting with an automatic rifle and a handgun and opened fire, KGO-TV in San Francisco reported.

The gunman left the scene and shot a woman in the leg while he carjacked her on the Hewlett-Packard campus nearby.

The suspect is now reportedly holed up in a home in Sunnyvale.

Two of the victims are reportedly in good and fair condition at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

One victim was taken to the emergency room at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto.

In Cupertino, the home of Apple Computer Co., public schools were open, but children were being kept indoors.
