Marine killed in training accident at Twentynine Palms

MarinesA Marine with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan has been killed in a vehicle accident during training at Twentynine Palms, the Marine Corps said Wednesday.

Sgt. Christopher Jacobs, 29, of Alcona, Mich., was killed Monday while training with an amphibious assault vehicle. He was part of the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

Jacobs enlisted in 2000 and deployed to Afghanistan in 2004 and Iraq in 2005. Among his service awards was the Combat Action Ribbon for having been under fire and returned fire.

The incident is under investigation, the Marine Corps said.
