Griffin O'Neal, son of Ryan O'Neal, pleaded not guilty to drug, weapons charges

Griffin O'Neal, the son of actor Ryan O'Neal, pleaded not guilty Thursday in San Diego County Superior Court to drug and weapons charges stemming  from a head-on vehicle crash.

O'Neal, 40, had amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in his system when his car veered into an oncoming lane and collided with another vehicle, prosecutors said. That driver suffered head and back injuries.

O'Neal was on probation for a drunk driving conviction at the time of the accident, which occurred in the San Pasqual Valley.

The arraignment judge set bail at $35,000 and ordered O'Neal not to drive.

Griffin O'Neal lives in San Diego County. His attorney said he was distracted on the day of the accident because his half brother, Redmond O'Neal, had been arrested on drug charges the previous day in Santa Monica.

Griffin O'Neal's mother is the late actress Joanna Cook Moore. His sister is Tatum O'Neal.
