Fontana man dies after stabbing wife in shower
Officers were called to the family’s home on the 16200 block of Ceres Avenue about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Fontana police said.
They found Jose Benitez, 36, and his wife, 35, whose name was not released, covered in blood from stab wounds.
Family members told officers Benitez and his wife had been having an argument. When she went to take a shower, he barged into the shower with a knife and began stabbing her, police said.
The couple’s 14-year-old son found a knife and stabbed Benitez, who, despite the wounds, continued stabbing his wife.
Benitez then stabbed himself. He died in the bathroom, but before dying told officers he had stabbed his wife and then himself, police said.
The wife is expected to survive her injuries, authorities said.
An autopsy will determine which wound -- Benitez's or his son's -- was fatal, police said.
