A man in Palmdale was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy following a confrontation, officials said Friday.

Deputies late Thursday morning responded to a call on the 3100 block of Heather Avenue that gunfire was coming from a house in the neighborhood.

When deputies reached the home, they ordered people in the garage to come out, but they refused, said Lt. Mary Leef.

Deputies then entered the garage and were confronted with an 32-year-old armed suspect, Leef said.

The man was shot then taken to a hospital, where he died. A handgun was recovered from the scene.

Leef said it was not clear if that was the weapon the suspect used to confront deputies.

The suspect’s name was not available and the deputy’s name is not being released pending an investigation, Leef said.
