A video recording of an altercation Tuesday between a man dressed as SpongeBob SquarePants and two women on Hollywood Boulevard shows a physical confrontation that ended with the police stepping in.

The video, posted on TMZ, show the man talking to two women. Words were exchanged and they appeared to start pushing each other. At one point the women punch and kick the man, tearing his bright yellow costume.

The man in the SpongeBob SquarePants outfit was questioned but not arrested in what a Los Angeles Police Department official described as a "brief incident with two females." No other details were available.

The video shows police also detaining the two women.

A photo of the scene on Hollywood Boulevard was taken by Steve Boelhouwer, who submitted it to The Times.
