Three arrested for sling-shot vandalism in South Bay

Torrance police arrested three teens they believe are responsible for a spree of slingshot-powered window smashings in several South Bay cities.

About 22 businesses, homes and cars in Torrance have had their windows broken since Sept. 15 by marbles or steel ball bearings, said Sgt. Steven Jenkinson of the Torrance Police Department.

Similar incidents were reported in nearby Lomita and Palos Verdes Estates, he said.

Police arrested 18-year-old Cody Lunde, of Lomita, and two 17-year-olds Friday after using surveillance video footage to get a vehicle description. All three face felony vandalism charges.

Jenkinson said police do not yet have a full estimate of damages, but current reports are in the $5,000 to $10,000 range.
