September 23, 2011 | 10:30 am

Hr Gardena police were investigating a shootout Friday between a Rosecrans Avenue meat market owner and an alleged armed robber that left the robber dead and a shopper wounded, as others looked on.

Officers arrived at Paisano Meats in the 1500 block of West Rosecrans Avenue about 6:30 a.m. to find the suspect shot a few dozen yards from the market, said Lt. Steve Prendergast of the Gardena Police Department.

As shoppers stood in the store, the owner was confronted with an armed robber, Prendergast said.

"There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspect was shot," he said.

A shopper in the store was wounded but was in stable condition at a hospital, Prendergast said.

The owner, whose name was not released, was not arrested in the case, Prendergast said.

The suspected robber had not been identified Friday morning, he said.
