Crash backs up southbound 101 Freeway near downtown L.A.

A multivehicle crash on the southbound 101 Freeway closed one lane of the freeway and backed up traffic on the first day back to school for many Los Angeles Unified School District students.

The crash, reported about 6 a.m. Wednesday near Glendale Boulevard, involved at least three vehicles, including a silver Toyota SUV that overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol.

One person was injured and taken to a hospital, fire officials said.

Authorities said they expected the right lane of the southbound 101 to reopen about 7:20 a.m.
