Robbers target disabled vehicles on freeways

September 27, 2011 | 11:04 am

The CHP is investigating a series of armed robberies of motorists with disabled cars on Inland Empire freeways, officials said Tuesday.

The robberies occurred on Interstates 15, 10, 210 and state highways 60 and 91 on Sept. 18 and 19, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

There were no detailed descriptions of the suspects or their vehicles.

CHP investigators believe the suspects were involved in two freeway shootings, an armed robbery in Mentone and another in Redlands.

The CHP has increased early morning patrols and formed a task force to investigate the robberies.

Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP at (909) 388-8000. They may also contact the San Bernardino County sheriff’s Yucaipa station at (909) 790-3105 or WE TIP (800-78-CRIME), or the Redlands Police Department at (909) 798-7688.
