Click here to learn more on the Times' interactive Homicide Report An alleged Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crips gang member has been arrested in connection with the killing of a 22-year-old man in the Chesterfield Square area this summer.

Rodrick Eugene Beal, 19, was arrested Tuesday after Los Angeles police Dets. John Ferreria and Myra Kellum connected him to the July 31 fatal shooting of Jim Flores.

Ferreria said Flores, 22, was walking in 5500 block of Cimarron Street about 12:30 a.m. when Beal fired several shots at him. Flores died at the hospital of gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.

Beal was seen running from the scene by officers but he left evidence which detectives retrieved, Ferreria said. Those items revealed Beal's identity, Ferreria said.  Officers tracked him down and arrested him at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. "Mr. Beal is an admitted Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crip," Ferreria said.

Detectives said the motive for the shooting is part of the ongoing investigation. But it was initially described as "gang-related."

Beal is being held in lieu of $1-million bail. The case will be presented to the district attorney's office within a day.
