Suspect charged in 'All Ears Bandit' bank robbery case

August 5, 2011 |  9:51 am

A suspected bank robber has been arrested and indicted in connection with several crimes in the Los Angeles area linked to "All Ears Bandit," authorities said Friday.

Stepan Dovlatyan, 25, was arrested at his Los Angeles residence on Monday without incident, according to Steven Martinez, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles office. Investigators identified Dovlatyan as a suspect based on evidence left at one of the banks, according to Laura Eimiller, an agency spokeswoman.

The list includes a bank robbery in Bell Gardens on March 12 and attempted robberies two days later in Carson. On March 19, there was another attempted robbery in Echo Park.

Dovlatyan made a brief court appearance on Tuesday and was allowed to post bail in the amount of $20,000, officials said. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on bank robbery and attempted bank robbery charges on July 22.

Dovlatyan was linked to the crimes based on descriptions of the suspect and the method used in each case, officials said.

The robber was dubbed the "All Ears Bandit" based on witness accounts describing the suspect as having large ears.
