Man shot, another beaten at 'Athletes Party' near LAX

A man was shot and another beaten unconscious at a party held at a restaurant near Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said Saturday.

Hundreds of people were attending the “I Love College: Athletes Party” Friday at the Proud Bird in the 11000 block of Aviation Boulevard when a man in his mid-20s was shot in the abdomen about 11:15 p.m. in the restaurant’s parking lot, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Richard Parks said.

“We don’t know the affiliation between the victim and the suspects at this point,” Parks said.

In a separate incident, a man engaged in a fight with several other party-goers was beaten until he lost consciousness, Parks said. Both victims were transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition. Their names and ages were not given.

No arrests were made.

According to its Facebook page, the party was open to ages 18 and up and was hosted by college athletes affiliated with Los Angeles.

Jerime Anderson, a reserve point guard on the UCLA basketball team, had initially planned to attend and help host the party. The 21-year-old backed out after being arrested on suspicion of grand theft for allegedly stealing a laptop computer.

At one point, teammate Anthony Stover, 21, was also listed as a host of the party, but it was not known if he attended.
