Man crushed to death at El Sereno bakery

Bakery State safety investigators have opened an investigation into what caused a gate to collapse at an El Sereno business early Monday, crushing a worker to death, authorities said.

The man, Rigoberto Yanez, 57, of Los Angeles, was opening a gate at the Chimentis Baking Co. at 5235 Valley Boulevard about 3:25 a.m. when it came off its track and fell on him, said Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter.

Yanez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cal-OSHA is investigating the circumstances behind the incident, which is being investigated as  an industrial accident, said spokeswoman Erika Monterroza.
