Mom accused of tossing baby is back on suicide watch

Hermosillo A woman accused of killing her 7-month-old child was placed on suicide watch in the Orange County Central Jail, which led to Thursday's postponement of a court hearing to arraign her on murder charges.

Jim Amormino, director of media with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, confirmed that Sonia Hermosillo, 31, was back on suicide watch.

He did not say what prompted doctors to place her in a solitary cell under constant observation, only that she was "in no medical condition to attend court today," he said.

Hermosillo is accused of killing her child Monday evening by dropping him from the fourth story of a parking garage at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Noe Medina, Hermosillo’s husband, said Wednesday that his wife suffered from postpartum depression and did not know what she was doing.

The arraignment hearing was rescheduled for Monday.

"It's a tragic story," Scott Simmons, a senior deputy district attorney, said. "I feel very sorry for the dad. It's a bad situation."
