Arraignment is set for 10 a.m. today in Santa Ana for a mother who investigators say dropped her 7-month-old son from the fourth floor of an Orange County parking garage, causing his death.

Sonia Hermosillo, 31, will be charged with murder and other crimes during the court session at the Central Jail in Santa Ana. She made a brief court appearance last week but did not enter a plea.

Authorities say Hermosillo drove her infant to the parking structure at Children's Hospital of Orange County on Aug. 22, removed a protective helmet from his head and dropped him from the fourth floor.

Noe Medina Jr. later died at the hospital.

Hermosillo is on suicide watch in an Orange County jail where she is being held on $1 million bail. She has also been placed on an immigration hold.

The child's father, Noe Medina, has pleaded for sympathy, saying his wife of 13 years was suffering from post-partum depression.

The baby was born with minor deformities that were being treated with the helmet and physical therapy.
