Anaheim man arrested in girlfriend's shooting death

Police have arrested an Anaheim man suspected of shooting his 20-year-old girlfriend to death.

Samuel Montes, 20, was taken into custody Saturday after fleeing the apartment where his girlfriend, Nicole Gutierrez, was found fatally shot, Anaheim Police Sgt. Bob Dunn said.

Police responded to reports of a shooting about 2:30 p.m. Saturday on the 2100 block of East Banyan Drive, where they found Gutierrez with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned Montes had been at the apartment but had fled before emergency responders arrived. Police found him, detained him for questioning and arrested him on suspicion of murder.

Montes, who works is landscaping, according to Orange County jail records, is being held in lieu of $1-million bail.
