Fatal big rig accident snarls 5 Freeway traffic near Pyramid Lake

Traffic snarled I-5 Pyramid Lake area Traffic was snarled in both directions of the 5 Freeway north of Santa Clarita on Thursday afternoon after a big-rig accident left one man dead and spilled fuel across multiple lanes, officials said.

Two lanes -- one northbound and southbound -- were still closed Thursday evening at Vista del Lago Road near Pyramid Lake, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said the driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes such as California 58 and California 138.

The big rig overturned shortly before  3 p.m., blocking all lanes on the 5 Freeway as investigators and officers responded.
