4-year-old kidnapped from church shelter; stranger sought

Jeremy Guthrie, 4, and Alleged Abductor, Annette Hale, 53

An Amber Alert has been issued for a 4-year-old boy kidnapped from an Atascadero church shelter early Friday morning, police said.

Jeremy Guthrie was last seen about 9 p.m. at the Echo Shelter at First Baptist Church, located at the 6370 Atascadero Mall. His mother reported him missing at 6:30 a.m., police said, but they believe the kidnapping occurred about 4:30 a.m.

Jeremy’s mother told police her son might have been taken by Annette Hale, 52, who was also staying at the shelter.

Jeremy has brown hair and is 3 feet, 5 inches tall. He was wearing a camouflage shirt, blue Spiderman underpants and no pants at the time he was last seen, and he might have a blanket with him.

Hale has brown hair, is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. She wears glasses, and police believe she was wearing a white tank top with her hair in a bun at the time of the incident. Authorities said she does not have a car and could still be in the area around the church.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Atascadero Police Department at (805) 461-5061.
