July 24, 2011 |  4:51 pm

A 30-acre brush fire between Simi Valley and Piru that broke out this morning just west of Interstate 5 is 70% contained, a fire official said.

Crews were dispatched to the blaze, which is burning near Tapo Canyon and Bennett roads in a rural area, at 6:15 a.m., a Ventura County Fire Department dispatcher said. No structures were threatened.

By late morning, crews had laid down a hose line around most of the fire and were expected to be done later this evening, fire dispatch said. The  Los Angeles County Fire Department is assisting.
