About 40 to 50 members of the media have been escorted into a small terminal set apart from the main buildings at Los Angeles International Airport -- all eagerly waiting for the arrival of Prince William and his wife, Catherine.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge departed from Canada on time and are expected to land in Los Angeles about 3:40 p.m., a spokesman for the British Consulate said. [Updated at 3:35 p.m.: Officials said the plane will be about 15 minutes late.]

A large security detail is present, including members of the Los Angeles Police Department and the California Highway Patrol. At least one CHP patrol car is flying a small British flag on its the antenna.

From LAX, William and Catherine will head to Beverly Hills for a business event supporting U.K. trade and investment. Then they will attend a reception at the British Consulate-General residence in Hancock Park.
