Los Angeles police are investigating reports Wednesday of a man with a gun near Occidental College in Eagle Rock.

Officials said the department is setting up a perimeter at Avenue 43 and Alumni Drive and will begin searching the area soon.

It was unclear if college is in session right now, but there are some activities on campus.

[Updated at 12:55 p.m., July 27: LAPD Commander Andy Smith said authorities are searching for an alleged gang member. Gang enforcement officers spotted him in the area with a weapon and are bringing in a canine unit to search for the suspect. The incident does not appear to be related to the campus, he said.]
