One dead, five injured in crash of Marine helicopter at Camp Pendleton

One Marine is dead and five Marines were injured in the crash of a helicopter at Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps said Wednesday night.

The crash of the UH-1Y "Huey" helicopter occurred around 11:40 a.m. in the northern reaches of the sprawling base, southeast of San Clemente.

The helicopter is part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, with its headquarters at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.  The five injured Marines were taken to local hospitals.
