Man in custody after trying to take deputy's gun at O.C. airport

A man was taken into custody Friday afternoon at John Wayne Airport after trying to take an Orange County sheriff deputy’s gun, authorities said. 

The incident occurred about 2:45 p.m. when a man in the departure gate area tried to remove the deputy’s handgun from his holster, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The officer “managed to take control” of the man, who was taken into custody. His name has not been released.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported. Authorities said the man was being questioned and the incident remains under investigation.
