Man crushed to death after fall into industrial washing machine

Bh A man was crushed to death Wednesday after falling into a washing machine at a denim washing business in an industrial area of Boyle Heights, authorities said.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. The incident was reported about 12:23 p.m. at the Jean Genie Wash Studio Inc. in the 600 block of S. Clarence Street.

No other injuries were reported at the business, described by authorities as a "garment processing facility" that washes and processes clothing in bulk. Humphrey said the accident took place while the victim was using a horizontal washer. According to preliminary information, it appears he somehow fell into the machine and was crushed.

But Humphrey stressed that the cause had not been determined and that the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles county coroner and Cal-OSHA were all involved in the investigation.
