City Chief Executive Tom Hatch will introduce the new chief at a 3 p.m. conference at City Hall, William Lobdell, the interim city spokesman, said.

The announcement ends a 3 1/2-month search that began when former Chief Christopher Shawkey resigned amid controversy that he had filed expense claims for personal trips to Arizona.

The department has had three interim police chiefs since Shawkey stepped down: Costa Mesa Police Capt. Les Gogerty, former Belmont and La Habra Police Chief Steve Staveley and former La Habra Police Chief Dennis Kies.
